Current educational research demonstrates that reaching higher achievement levels require students to have specific skills, attitudes and competencies. Join us to learn to develop strategies and techniques to help your students these capacities by creating a successful learning community in your classroom or youth group.

Description of Program

The 4-H Challenge Program is based on a highly successful experiential learning, adventure based counseling model. Like all 4-H, the Challenge Program helps develop self-confidence, self-esteem and basic life skills. Participants create a safe learning environment to plan and set goals, go beyond perceived limits while taking appropriate risks, rely on others for teamwork, and develop trust. They also develop listening, communication, decision making and problem solving skills.

Unique and innovative applications of 4-H Challenge include job readiness programs, drug and alcohol prevention, conflict resolution & bulling prevention, school dropout projects, juvenile detention and street youth interventions. Youth organizations accessing 4-H Challenge curricula include organized 4-H clubs, Boy and Girl Scout troops, juvenile detention centers, Camp Fire, churches, public and private schools, park and recreation departments, Boys and Girls Clubs, YMCA centers, drug/alcohol programs, mental health centers and other social service & community agencies.

4-H Challenge Programming has been active in Olympia since 1998 focusing on in-school/after school programs, Family Night Out, and low and high ropes course programming at The Evergreen State College. The 4-H Challenge Program is actively engaging in developing a new full service Challenge Program site in Olympia,
at Meyers Point.
